When
does the OutVoice Top 40 chart get posted?
Starting in August, 2008 the OutVoice Top 40 Chart will be posted on the
eighth of each month. Speak Out will post on the 10th of each month. The
first issue of Speak Out will be available on the OutVoice website.
Subsequent issues will be available by subscription.
The shows will start at Rainbow
World Radio on the 13th of each month.

What
has caused the date variance for the posting of the OutVoice chart?
A couple of reasons for this problem. Most recently I/Len was
hospitalized and there was no one to do the count. In other cases it
usually has been tabulating software. Due to the somewhat complex vote
count of the chart I have had a very difficult time finding software
which would consistently perform the operation. So in many cases a hand
count has been needed. And in most cases a hand count was done to insure
accuracy. A new schedule of counting will aid in the timely posting of
the chart each month. If the new schedule is as expedient as expected,
the post date may move up to an earlier date.

How
can I get a new artist on the chart?
New artists are added by ballot point count, meaning your vote. A new
artist or new CD may be voted or placed on a ballot at any time. The CD
must be released in order to be included. Remember if you put the same
artist/CD on each entry on the ballot only the first one will
count.

Why
do artists stay on the chart so long?
Artists and the CD's are elected to the chart by ballot points via your
vote. Artists remain on the chart as long as fans and supporters keep
voting them onto the chart. The artist/CD position is also determined by
the total of ballot points.

Will
you consider setting a limit as to how long an artist can remain on the
chart?
No I will not consider setting a limit on the length of time an
artist/CD may remain on the chart. This is a fan driven promotion and
the fans set that timetable. I feel it would be a rude action to negate
a fan/supporter vote.

I
keep voting for an artist and they never show up on the chart, why?
There could be several reasons for that to occur. The number of ballots received
and the total ballot points awarded to each artist. The highest goes to
the number one position and so forth down to the number 40. Each month
there are many more artists voted for than actually elected. The best
way to get a CD onto the chart is to ask friends to vote for the artist.
The more who vote and in particular on a full ballot, the better the
chance the CD will indeed make the chart.

Please
explain how chart points are awarded.
There is a long description here.
In cases where only one CD/artist is placed on a ballot, even in the
number one spot, that CD gets one ballot point for that ballot. If the
ballot contains a full ten CD's/artists, then position number one gets
ten points, number two gets nine points, number three gets eight points
and so forth down to the number ten position which now gets one point.
This point count is per ballot. So you can increase your favorite CD
artist vote count by voting a full ballot. If five CD's are listed on a
ballot then number one position gets five points, number two gets four
and so forth.

I
have read about Artists for Equality, does that mean OutVoice is
closing?
No OutVoice is not closing. I currently accept artists who may not be of
the GLBT community but actively and openly support our GLBT artists.
Artists for Equality will be geared to artists who support Human
Equality. In all forms; race, age, gender, sexual identity, and so
forth. The support of Human Equality is to promote the concept that all
people are equal.

Why
can't we buy CD's of the artists on OutVoice?
No arrangements have been established between OutVoice and the artists
to do so. Some artists do sell their CD's at the StoneWall
Society ArtMall. With the ability for artists to sell direct or
considering the number of sites which carry music sales I have not
pushed the idea of OutVoice as an outlet for sales. I do not wish to
burden the artists with supply or cost issues. I think it is more
productive for the artists for OutVoice to refer to where the music may
be purchased. I also do not wish to create issues over suggested favoritism
due to large sales.

Would
you consider adding a Top 40 song chart?
I have thought about that, and received that request/question
frequently. I will consider adding such a feature once I have the
current chart calculation consistently handled properly.

Would
votes for my favorite straight artist be included?
If the artist has band members of the GLBT community or the artist
openly and actively supports the equality of GLBT artists, yes the votes
are counted. When in doubt I contact the artists directly. That does not
mean I always get an answer. Please understand that just because you
hear the music in a bar does not mean that artist is an active supporter.

How
do the artists who stay on the chart manipulate the chart?
I have heard this question on more than one occasion. And personally I
find it offensive. No artist manipulates the chart. They may continually
ask fans to vote, but that would be the only way an artist may influence
their stay on the chart. I encourage artists to ask fans to vote. One
goal of OutVoice is to assist the artist in building an active and
supportive fan base. Artists stay on the chart because their fans
vote/elect them onto the chart. Fans take a great deal of time and
effort to vote each month. I appreciate that effort in a very large way.
As do I am sure the artists. To suggest that someone is
"manipulating" is of disservice to the chart, fans, artist,
and myself.

Why
are some artist's music not included in the OutVoice shows at Rainbow
World Radio?
If an artist's music is not included on the OutVoice Top 40 on Rainbow
World Radio it is because I do not have the artist's
music in our library. In other words the artist has not submitted music
for inclusion. For the first three years I contacted each artist on the
chart each month they were elected to the chart. About a year ago I cut
that to three times. If I know an artist to be touring or for some
reason unavailable, I will continue to contact. In some cases it may
take a few months for an artist to get the music to me. If they are on
the road, in production etc, that can and does cause delays. That in no
way is a negative on the artist. If an artist is on the chart for many
months and the music is not included in the shows, then I have confirmed
they do not choose to submit. I make no assumptions about these artists,
nor are they removed. I would suggest contacting any artist who is on
the chart but not included directly and ask. If they have representation
frequently the artist may not even know. If you do not see an asterisk,
*, after the CD name that means I do not have their music to include. If
the artist is not listed in bold print that means the artist is not a
participant in any way of the OutVoice chart or StoneWall Society GLBT
artists promotion.
