"THIS WAY OUT: the international lesbian & gay radio magazine
Program #1,092 - distributed 3/2/09
(hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
Sean Penn and Dustin Lance Black "Milk" the Oscars for equality;
A U.N. rights conference rejects lesbigay inclusion, Australia's "rebel priest" refuses to be fired, Britain's Border Agency bans the Phelps clan, a Jamaican M.P. suffers from homophobic foot-in-mouth, defamatory anti-gay debates debase U.S. legislative deliberations, a Scottish lesbian couple wins NHS fertility treatment, and more global LGBT news
- In "NewsWrap": A U.N. rights conference rejects a statement condemning anti-lesbigay discrimination... a fired LGBT-welcoming Roman Catholic priest refuses to vacate his Brisbane church, while an anti-bias Brazilian priest is suspended for advocating condom use... the notorious Fred Phelps-led Kansas "God Hates Fags" clan is banned from the U.K., a Jamaican M.P. laments a police force "over-run by homosexuals," Utah and Colorado lawmakers find chilly receptions for their anti-lesbigay rants, legal action by a Scottish lesbian couple wins them National Health Service IVF treatment... and more LGBT news from around the world? (written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by TANYA KANE-PARRY and LEIGH MOORE).
- SEAN PENN won the Best Actor Oscar at the 81st annual ACADEMY AWARDS in Hollywood on February 22nd for his moving portrayal of assassinated gay San Francisco Supervisor Harvey "MILK" in that critically acclaimed film, directed by openly gay nominee Gus Van Sant.? And the Best Original Screenplay trophy went to first-time nominee and openly gay writer DUSTIN LANCE BLACK.? Both winners talked politics in their acceptance speeches and with the press backstage? (and we add music from "God Loves Me Too" by SCANDELLE and "Love Won Out" by TOKYO ROSENTHAL).
