"THIS WAY OUT: the international lesbian & gay radio magazine
Program #1,067 distributed 09/08/08
(hosted this week by Greg Gordon and produced with Lucia Chappelle)
The adventures of ex-ex gay Peterson Toscano in Anglican-land;
Lesbigay Republicans pick McCain over their Party's platform;
Australia's government proposes same-gender couples rights, a New York judge gives the Bronx cheer to a marriage recognition challenge, Pride marches in Manchester, Truro and Ottawa, "Newsweek" finds Iraqi gays in mortal peril, and more global LGBT news

* In "NewsWrap": The Australian government introduces legislation to grant a number of rights to same-gender couples, while a New York judge upholds Governor David Paterson's executive order requiring all state agencies to recognize same-gender marriages legally performed elsewhere... LGBT Pride is celebrated in Manchester and Truro, England and in Canada's capital, Ottawa, Ontario... a "Newsweek" magazine story called "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Do Kill" attempts to report on the plight of gays in Iraq... the U.S. Republican Party officially nominates Senator John McCain for president, but his Vice Presidential pick gets most of the media attention... some Virginia GOP convention delegates apparently still manage to find queer night spots in St. Paul without the traditional guidebooks... and more LGBT news from around the world (written by GREG GORDON, and reported this week by CHRIS WILSON and DONNA ANN WARD).

* Not surprisingly, Republican presidential nominee SENATOR JOHN McCAIN didn't address LGBT issues in his September 4th acceptance speech at the GOP's national convention in St. Paul, Minnesota [we begin with a brief excerpt of what he did say].? Backed by the largest lesbigay contingent ever, and the first to be officially credentialed at the convention, the board of the LOG CABIN REPUBLICANS voted 12-to-2 to endorse McCain.? Their president, PATRICK SAMMON, explained to CNN anchor Soledad O'Brien how the organization could look past the Republican platform's call for a federal amendment banning same gender marriage.

* Not many outsiders got an inside view of the once-a-decade LAMBETH CONFERENCE of ANGLICAN bishops in mid-August.? Ex-ex gay activist and performance artist PETERSON TOSCANO brought his unique perspective to the event, and shared his observations with "This Way Out" correspondent HEATHER KITCHING [from CITR/Vancouver, B.C.s "Queer FM"].
